We are pleased to announce the recent ordination of our very own Pastor Ben Swenson. On July 5, 2015, many friends, family, community members and First Southern Baptist Church members gathered to celebrate his ordination. Participating in the prayers were Ben's dad, Bryant Swenson, Bob Hendrickson, Pastor Curt Stackpole, Ben's brother, Bryant Swenson, and Kentucky Youth Pastor Jason Fuson.
You may ask, what is an ordination? The simplified definition of ordination is the act of being consecrated, or set apart to do the work of the Lord Jesus. The ceremony included songs of praise to our God, a charge to the church and to Pastor Ben to stay focused on the ministry God has for him, and a laying on of hands and prayer from all ordained ministers in the service. The most precious blessing was watching as Pastor Ben’s father, brother and mentor prayed over him with the power of the Holy Spirit and the most indepth love that comes directly from Christ.
Although Pastor Ben has been following the direction of the Holy Spirit in his ministry for years, ordination was another step in his walk of faithfulness to the ministry he has so humbly committed to.
The very act of being ordained, or “appointed,” is Biblical as is seen in Acts 13 when the Holy Spirit “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” After they had prayed and fasted, the disciples who were present placed their hands on Barnabas and Saul and sent them off to begin their mission work. Therefore, Pastor Ben, and all of us at FSBCH are excited to walk along side you, ministering to to all, and the church and community for the sake of Christ.
